Season 2021 Match Reports

Round 1

U/17 Girls vs Maitland

The first game for U17 Youth Girls was short on numbers but big on game play.

With only 12 per side for most of the game there was a lot of ground to cover and the midfield did a great job lead by the influence of Reannon Warr who was everywhere. The backline only conceded 9 points with Luka Wilson marshalling the players and Louise Arthur shutting down a number of attacks.

The forward line lead by power forward Mia Wilson put on 85 points featuring great marking and strong tackling in the forward 50. Every player played their part as the Bombers dominated across the field. Special mention to Sienna Hutton who bravely returned to the field after a heavy hit, and Tayah Clark pushing through illness.

Alison Arthur was clean with the ball, and Brooke White shut down her player. New player Tahlee Wood did well at both ends of the field and Emily Thompson left the opposition feeling like they had hit a brick wall. Lekeisha provided highlights with speedy runs breaking lines.

Captain Zahlia Vickers kept everyone going with disciplined play to see out the first win. Also a shout out to Water Runner Sam who was much needed in the heat of the sun. We have a week off before going again, but things are looking great for the Bomber U17 Girls.

U/17 Boys v  TEBB

The U17s kicked off their 2021 season at home to Bateau Bay. It was a very physical contest from the outset with neither side taking a backward step. Josh was proving near-impossible to match up on in the forward half, booting three goals in the opening half. The midfield - led by Co-Captains Asher and Luke - provided plenty of entries into the forward 50, as both sides' defences held up well under constant pressure. Bateau Bay took a 34-20 lead into the main break, but the Bombers showed plenty of fight.

Dane found himself a home at centre-half back in the second-half, winning plenty of the ball and providing a lot of drive from the back 50. Unfortunately ruckman Mitch had to leave midway through the match for work commitments and a leg injury to Kye meant the side was forced to finish the match with just 14 fit players.
Bateau Bay were able to take advantage of this and keep the Bombers goalless in the second half, while managing to record six majors themselves to run away with the victory.

Congratulations to Dane, Charlie, Brock and Danny on making their debuts for the club.

Killarney Vale 3-4-22
Bateau Bay 11-8-74

Best: D. Barlow, A. Ryan, D. Hooke, R. Armstrong, J. Farmilo, L. Bragg
Goals: J. Farmilo - 3

U/15 Girls vs Saratoga

We rolled up to passage rd today with a talented but confused side as the girls had only one or two sessions as a full side. With the girls feeling a weight of expectation we the coaches wanted to go back to basics.

From the first bounce the girls did this with our midfield  grouping of Hoff, Tera, Eva, Leah  winning possession and handing off on the run like it was natural, a huge boost to everyone’s confidence early. We settled in to our work early and our three key forwards caused havoc from the start! With Bt, Sarah and Charlotte being to much to deal with early.

I loved the way that every girl introduced themselves to the game even debutants Issy and Liz both having strong touches early on to get themselves in the game.. All in all girls the skill level was higher than I thought it would be and I can’t complain round 1 with such a team effort, special mention to the under 13's that backed up you didn’t look out of place no matter the positioning and that’s a credit to the youth girls system  Richard Noone Sean Mitchell.

Coaches awards today:   Hoff, Sarah, Liz/Issy

See you Wednesday girls great start 👌

Coach Scott

U/11 Girls vs TEBB

It was a bit disappointing Bateau had to forfeit our opening round of 2021 YG11s footy but in a way it was a perfect way into the season for our new players who absolutely ripped in against familiar faces. Scarlett was exceptional in ruck, Emily attacked the footy like a seasoned pro and even the Bateau coach turned around at one point and said he thought Emma was a natural.

Aleera got heaps of touches, Zara tackled well and got rewarded with a free kick and Gemma was well involved for us and for Bateau. Elisha was a workhorse, fighting for the footy and breaking free for some great runs and Daisy showed a lot of determination and a game awareness far beyond her experience.

I was especially proud of the way all our girls played when they were playing for Bateau and when I offered for them to come back and play for us, Scarlett volunteered to keep playing for Bateau for another quarter while Lani volunteered herself and Lily Davidson. That sort of sportsmanship at such a young age is an example the entire club can aspire to.
All our returning players had solid hit outs but Lani had a breakthrough game and showed what she’s capable of when she backs herself.

All in all I could not be happier with the start of the season. Let’s see some of our players, who were out today, return in two weeks and we will be a force to be reckoned with in 2021.

Well done all and great stuff Scarlett who took home the McDonalds award. Honestly I could have given out 10-12 of those today, everyone gave their all.

U/11 Boys Killarney Vale Black  v  Killarney Vale Red

This weekend saw the U11s BLACK side take on our Clubmen in the KV U11s RED.

From the first bounce we could see that we were in for a tough battle. Whilst the boys got off to a slow start, their game play and endeavor for the footy definitely improved as the match progressed.

The third quarter was our strongest with intense pressure at the contest, monstrous tackles, kicks to marks in passages of play and some great individual efforts!!

Despite being up against it, our boys showed just how huge their hearts are by ensuring they gave it their all, right up to the final siren. Well done boys!!!

Best on ground: Bronson Webb

Honorable mentions: Hamish Kennedy, Felix Friend, Cruz Vella

U/9s Killarney Vale vs Killarney Vale

Tim and Mick's Team

It was a great and close first contest between the two premier under 9 teams.
All the kids enjoyed themselves and the umpiring was exceptional.....

Chad's side had some great kick marking posessions between each other and the tackling from both sides was quite ferocious for kids just out of auskick.

With our side opening the scoring and chopping the ball off through the middle during the second quarter Chad's side dominated the entire last quarter with field possession in their forward line but our side defending really well.
It was great to see some team work start to prevail in the second half.
Our awards went to sunnie for great sportsmanship volunteering to play for the other side and diesel for several possessions in the first half.

Chad and Shane's Team

Georgina got player of the match for my team absolutely dominated, both in attack and defence, tackled her heart out.

All kids played well and tried hard, and will only improve as they play week in week out.

With a 3-4  players today playing there first game of AFL ever. And a lot of the kids not playing with each other before. Going to be a good year.

U/9s v  Terrigal

Bomberland was a buzz with beautiful sunny conditions for our kids first game of the season. Taking on our old foe Terrigal we all knew that we would be in for a great game of footy. Our kids didn't disappoint showcasing their skills, Teamwork and sportsmanship for all to see.

We welcomed Summer Robertson, Levi Collins, Kade Davidson and the returning Charlie Pidgeon for their first games in the team and all 4 managed to get their hands on the footy, take a few marks, get a few kicks, with Kade and Charlie even slotting a couple of goals. Our Kids were extremely impressive for their first game of the season and their ability to link up with each other through handpasses, marks, and goals was applauded by all their supporters on the sidelines. Both Rod and Myself are once again looking forward to working with these little legends through the season ahead.

Cheers Coach Justin
